BTEC & HND Equivalence in Pakistan: IBCC and HEC Explained
By Blue Ocean Admissions Team5 min read
One of the first questions students and parents ask about British qualifications is: “Will this be recognised in Pakistan?” This guide explains what each Pearson level is equivalent to, which body handles the equivalence, and how to get your documents ready.
Who issues equivalence in Pakistan?
Two bodies are involved. The Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) issues equivalence for school-level qualifications — up to Intermediate / A-Level. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) deals with higher-education qualifications and degrees.
Rules and requirements are updated from time to time, so always check the latest process on the official IBCC and HEC websites before you apply. Our team can guide you through the current steps.
What each Pearson level is equivalent to
- BTEC Level 3 National Diploma — Intermediate / A-Level (F.A / F.Sc).
- BTEC Level 4 HNC — 1st year of a Bachelor’s degree.
- BTEC Level 5 HND — 2nd year of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management — Postgraduate Diploma (PGD).
Documents you will usually need
- Your original Pearson certificate and transcript / unit results.
- Copies of previous certificates (Matric / O-Level, Intermediate / A-Level).
- CNIC or B-Form copy and recent photographs.
- The completed application form and fee for the relevant body.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Waiting until the last minute — equivalence can take time, so start early if you need it for admission or a job.
- Sending incomplete documents — missing transcripts are the most common reason for delays.
- Relying on old information — always confirm the current requirements before applying.
